Costa Rica Day Three - Conquering Fears: My Surfing Adventure in Costa Rica

There’s something about the calm of the morning, the sound of birds and distant monkeys, that makes everything feel right. I started my day at the A-frame Cabin with a simple yet satisfying breakfast of eggs. As I cooked, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of excitement and nerves for the day ahead.

I decided to take a trip to Playa Potrero, a beautiful beach that offers more than just stunning views. It was here that I rented a surfboard and prepared to face one of my biggest fears. You see, years ago in Santa Cruz, I had a near-death experience while surfing. I vividly remember the terror of almost drowning and the sight of my surfboard being completely destroyed against the rocks. That experience left a mark on me, and I swore I’d never try surfing again.

But something about Costa Rica, the allure of the ocean, and the need to conquer my fears pushed me to give it another shot. I won’t lie; my heart was pounding as I paddled out. The waves weren’t huge, but to me, they were daunting. It took everything in me to push past the fear and just stand on that board.

And I did. Not every time, but a few times. Those few moments of balance, of standing tall on the board, were all I needed. It was exhilarating, liberating, and most of all, fun. I realized that sometimes, it’s not about mastering something perfectly but about taking that first step, no matter how shaky.

After my surfing adventure, I relaxed with some snorkeling, taking in the vibrant marine life and the tranquility beneath the waves. It was the perfect way to end the day, a reward for facing my fears and coming out stronger.

Costa Rica is becoming more than just a vacation spot for me; it’s a place of growth, challenges, and unforgettable experiences.
