A few months ago, I had the pleasure of meeting an incredible family for a photo session that perfectly reflected the laid-back and lively energy of Santa Cruz, California. What started as a simple family gathering turned into one of the most fun and memorable shoots I’ve had — filled with laughter, silly poses, and a reminder of why I love family photography in Santa Cruz so much.

A Day by the Beach

As soon as we met by the coast, I felt that familiar wave of nostalgia. I spent years in the Bay Area and have so many personal memories tied to this town — the salty air, the colorful boardwalk, and the easygoing beach vibe that makes Santa Cruz feel like home.

The family instantly brought that same energy to our session. Between playful group poses (yes, even a human pyramid!) and spontaneous moments with their dog, it was pure joy from start to finish.
