2-Hour Surprise Proposal Session Timeline

Ready to pop the question in an epic way? Here’s what a perfectly paced 2-hour surprise proposal session could look like, filled with love, emotion, and stunning Colorado backdrops.

5:00 PM – Meet at Garden of the Gods

We’ll meet at a pre-planned location within Garden of the Gods where I’ll blend into the scene to capture the surprise moment discreetly. Everything will be in place for your partner to be completely caught off guard — in the best way.

5:15 PM – The Big Moment: The Proposal

This is it! You ask the question — and I’ll capture the raw, genuine reactions from a distance. After the initial joy and emotions, we’ll take a few moments to breathe, hug it out, and start snapping some just-engaged portraits.

5:30 PM – Couple Portraits Around the Park

We’ll stroll to nearby scenic spots for a relaxed photo session — just the two of you soaking in the moment. Expect a mix of candid moments, emotional connection, and natural poses with stunning red rocks, mountain views, and golden light.

6:15 PM – Sunset Finale

As the sun begins to dip, we’ll wrap up with dreamy golden-hour portraits in a picturesque location — perfect for announcing your big news on social media or saving for your future wedding website.

6:30 PM – Session Ends

You’re newly engaged and have a full gallery of unforgettable moments to relive it all. Time to go celebrate together — champagne, dinner, or just watching the stars. Your next chapter has officially begun.

Voila! You’re done – with unforgettable memories and stunning photos to remember the day!

I believe that love is love. I’m proud to celebrate and welcome couples of every age, background, ability, gender, race, religion, and sexual orientation.

Engagement Session Tips & FAQs

Your engagement is one of the most exciting seasons of your life — and it deserves to be remembered. An engagement photo session is the perfect way to celebrate, capture your connection, and create memories before the wedding day.

Here are a few of my favorite tips to help you feel prepared, relaxed, and ready to make the most of your session.

1. What should we wear?

  • Go for earthy tones and neutrals, with one outfit more casual and one a bit dressier if you like. These look great in nature and match Colorado landscapes.

  • Avoid tiny, busy patterns that can distract.

  • Bring layers or a backup outfit—you never know how shade, wind, or weather will shift the mood.

2. Where should we shoot & when?

  • Pick a location that means something to both of you: favorite trail, spot where you had your first date, or somewhere adventurous. That gives your photos more emotional weight.

  • Golden hour (shortly after sunrise or before sunset) almost always delivers the best light — soft, warm, and flattering.

  • If weather or lighting gets tricky, have a backup plan (closer location, shaded spot, etc.).

3. Can we bring pets / props?

  • Yes! Pets and props totally add character and make the shoot feel more “you.”

  • For pets: bring someone to help with them so you’re free to relax during most of the session.

  • For props: less is more. Choose one or two meaningful things (coffee mugs, guitar, book, etc.) rather than a lot, so it still feels natural.

4. What if we’re camera shy or worried about posing?

  • That’s super common — you don’t need to be used to it. I’ll guide you with gentle direction & prompts, help you warm up, and let most moments happen naturally.

  • A little movement or doing something together (walking, dancing, talking) helps loosen up and creates better, more candid shots.

5. How many outfits / how much time should we plan for?

  • Usually 1 hour works well for variety, outfit change, and multiple locations (if they’re close). If you want more time, or want more dramatic locations, 2-4 hour “Adventure Sessions” give you that space.

  • If you’re using photos for Save-the-Dates or invites, plan ahead so you have time for editing & printing.

6. What about makeup / hair / looking polished?

  • Natural, soft looks tend to photograph more beautifully in outdoor light. Think texture + softness over heavy shimmer.

  • Do a trial or practice of hair/makeup if you can — especially if you want something new or fancy.

  • Pack a small touch-up kit: lip balm, powder, hair spray, de-frizz spray, maybe a mirror for quick checks.

7. What if weather or light changes on session day?

  • Be flexible. Overcast skies can offer beautiful, even light. A little drizzle or unexpected clouds can give drama & mood.

  • If severe weather (storms, etc.), definitely reschedule if possible.

  • Trust your photographer to adjust timing or location to chase better light.

8. What do we get in the end & how long will it take?

  • Expect delivery of a curated gallery where you can view, download, share, print your favorites.

  • I’ll give you a timeframe up front (usually 7-10 days or whatever is standard for your package), so you know when to expect the photos.

  • If you want prints, albums, or special products, let’s talk ahead so those options are available.

9. How do we prep emotionally & logistically?

  • Get rest the night before, hydrate, stay relaxed. Feeling calm helps your photos feel relaxed.

  • Plan logistics (travel time, parking, permits if needed) so the day feels smooth. Don’t rush — being late or worried about logistics always reduces the vibe.

  • Do a small “warm up” before the shoot: listen to music, go for a walk, talk about funny memories, etc. It helps loosen nerves.

10. How far in advance should we book?

  • Engagement sessions fill up, especially for golden hour or popular locations. Booking at least 2-3 months ahead of when you want photos is a good rule of thumb.

  • If you want premium spots (high mountains, permits, etc.), even more lead time may be needed.

“Bobak was wonderful to work with! He is such a joyful person and he makes you feel so comfortable during the photo shoot. He was a delight to talk to and really knew what he was doing. We are so glad we booked with him! Highly recommend!”
