Some elopement days feel like a production. Others feel like you're simply being invited into a really meaningful moment between two people.
Aly and Taylor’s Garden of the Gods elopement was the latter.
They traveled to Colorado from Nebraska, bringing with them a laid-back, joyful energy that made the entire morning feel incredibly easy. From the moment we met, they were relaxed, genuine, and completely themselves—and that made photographing their day such a pleasure.
We met at the Three Graces area of Garden of the Gods just after sunrise, surrounded by towering red rock formations and the soft morning light that makes this place so special.
It was quiet, beautiful, and exactly the kind of Colorado morning I love photographing.
A Sunrise Garden of the Gods Elopement
One of my favorite things about a Garden of the Gods elopement is how different the park feels early in the morning.
The red rocks begin catching the first light of the day, the air is cool and peaceful, and there is something about being there before the park gets busy that makes everything feel more intimate.
For Aly and Taylor, the morning started at Three Graces, one of the beautiful areas throughout the park where the dramatic rock formations create an incredible backdrop without needing to overcomplicate the experience.
They weren't looking for anything elaborate.
They just wanted to be together, exchange their vows, and have a beautiful morning celebrating their marriage.
And honestly, that's exactly what we did.
Vows, Rings, and a Beautiful Beginning
Once we settled in, Aly and Taylor exchanged their vows surrounded by the red rocks of Garden of the Gods.
There was something incredibly genuine about the way they approached the ceremony. Nothing felt overly staged or performative. It was simply two people who were clearly happy to be there together.
They exchanged rings, signed their marriage paperwork, and took in the moment.
Those are some of my favorite parts of photographing elopements—the little pauses between the bigger moments.
The smiles after the vows.
The nervous excitement beforehand.
The way a couple looks at each other once the ceremony is over and they realize, we're married.
Those moments don't need much direction. They just need space to happen.
Exploring Garden of the Gods Together
After the ceremony, we spent time exploring the area and photographing Aly and Taylor together among the red rock formations.
They were incredibly easygoing, which made it easy to let the morning unfold naturally.
We walked, talked, laughed, and stopped whenever we found a beautiful view or a moment worth photographing.
That's one of the things I love most about Garden of the Gods. You don't have to force the scenery.
The landscape is already doing most of the work.
The towering sandstone formations, open sky, mountain views, and changing morning light create an incredible setting for an intimate wedding experience.
And because we started at sunrise, we had that softer, quieter atmosphere that I love so much.
Why I Love Sunrise at Garden of the Gods
If you're considering a Garden of the Gods elopement, sunrise is one of my favorite times of day to recommend.
The morning light is soft and beautiful, temperatures are generally cooler, and the park tends to be much quieter than it is later in the day.
It also gives the experience a slower, more peaceful feeling.
You're not rushing through the park trying to fit everything into a busy afternoon.
Instead, you can arrive, take a breath, exchange your vows, explore the formations, and actually enjoy being there.

A Colorado Elopement From Nebraska
One of the things I especially enjoyed about Aly and Taylor's day was getting to know them.
They were visiting from Nebraska and told me about their life as farmers, and I loved getting a little glimpse into their world.
There's something really special about meeting people from somewhere completely different and getting to spend a few hours with them during one of the most meaningful days of their lives.
By the end of the morning, it didn't feel like I was simply showing up to photograph a couple I'd never met before.
It felt like I had gotten to know two genuinely wonderful people.
They were mellow, joyful, and completely themselves.
Those are the couples I love photographing most.

Aly and Taylor's morning is a great example of how simple an elopement can be.
You don't need a huge guest list, an elaborate setup, or an entire day packed with activities.
Sometimes the best elopement is simply:
The two of you.
A beautiful place.
Your vows.
Your rings.
A little adventure.
And enough time to actually enjoy being together.
