Returning to Pokeatery in San Mateo for my second food photography session was an absolute pleasure — a mix of new discoveries and familiar favorites. This family-owned restaurant continues to inspire me with their dedication, creativity, and the way they bring people together through incredible food.
A Fresh Twist on Familiar Favorites
One of the highlights of this session was the debut of their signature toasts — a new addition that perfectly complements their classic poke bowls and sushi rolls. The Pokeatery team has a way of balancing authenticity with innovation, and it’s been amazing watching their menu evolve over time.
Colorado Food Photographer
As a Colorado food photographer, I’m always drawn to dishes that burst with color and texture. Pokeatery’s menu is a dream for that — vibrant bowls layered with salmon, tuna, edamame, mango, and seaweed salad. Each plate feels like a work of art waiting to be captured. Playing with natural light and composition, I focused on highlighting the freshness, balance, and artistry that define their food.

What I love most about working with restaurants like Pokeatery is the collaboration — the teamwork between chef, photographer, and stylist to create something beautiful. Every photo tells a small story about care, craft, and the love that goes into each dish.
Final Thoughts
This second session with Pokeatery was a reminder that creativity is never static — it evolves, just like good food does. I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to work with such an inspiring team once again, and I can’t wait to share more culinary adventures from restaurants across Colorado and beyond.
