There’s something magical about stepping away from everyday life and celebrating milestones surrounded by nature. When my friend Z turned 30, we decided there was no better place to honor it than deep in the Sierra Nevada — along the legendary John Muir Trail, ending at the remote Vermilion Valley Resort near Edison Lake.
This wasn’t just another birthday trip. It was a reminder of why I fell in love with travel and adventure photography, and how those moments in the wild inspire my work today.
Into the Wilderness
The moment we hit the trail, the scent of pine and crisp mountain air filled our lungs. With every step, the sounds of rushing creeks and wind through the trees replaced the hum of city life. It’s the kind of peace you can’t describe — the kind you have to feel.
Hiking alongside friends, camera strapped to my chest, I remembered why I’m so drawn to documenting stories like these. Whether I’m hiking through California’s wilderness or photographing elopements in the Rockies, I’m always chasing that same feeling — connection, awe, and freedom.

A Celebration of Friendship
Z has always been one of those people who lives life full throttle — curious, humble, and endlessly adventurous. His 30th birthday wasn’t about fancy dinners or crowded parties; it was about finding meaning in simplicity.
We hiked, laughed, cooked camp meals under the stars, and sat quietly when words weren’t needed. These are the kinds of moments that shape friendships — the unfiltered, real ones that stay with you long after the hike is over.
If you’ve read my About Me page, you know this is what drives me: storytelling through real experiences and shared adventures.
John Muir Trail Adventure Photography
As a John Muir Trail adventure photographer, I live for this kind of light, texture, and emotion. Every ridge, every golden hour glow, every burst of laughter becomes part of a visual narrative.
From misty mornings at the trailhead to the warm fireside conversations at Vermilion Valley Resort, I captured every moment that reminded me why I started this journey over a decade ago. My camera is more than just a tool — it’s how I freeze stories worth remembering.

Vermilion Valley Resort: A Sanctuary in the Wild
After long days of hiking, Vermilion Valley Resort felt like paradise. Rustic cabins, hearty food, and the laughter of other travelers filled the space with warmth. We swapped stories with hikers who had trekked for weeks on the Pacific Crest Trail — strangers who instantly felt like old friends.
This place reminded me that community can form anywhere — even 9,000 feet up in the middle of nowhere.

Reflections by the Campfire
As the sun dipped below the horizon, we sat around a flickering campfire, stars glimmering overhead, and toasted to Z’s 30th. There was laughter, gratitude, and a quiet sense of renewal — the kind of moment that puts life into perspective.
That night, I felt deeply thankful — for friendship, for nature, and for the ability to capture it all through photography.
Here’s to the Next Adventure
We left Vermilion Valley with tired legs, full hearts, and the kind of memories that last forever. Z’s milestone reminded me why I’ll always chase the next horizon — whether it’s halfway across the world or just down a Colorado trail.
If you’re planning your own adventure — whether it’s an elopement abroad, a mountain proposal, or simply a story worth telling — I’d love to help you capture it.
