Some sessions stay with you long after they’re over, and this was one of them. Photographing Jennifer and Eric’s family at Garden of the Gods felt like spending time with old friends — full of laughter, warmth, and genuine connection. They’re one of those families that remind you why family photography at Garden of the Gods is such a meaningful experience.

A Beautiful Colorado Family Session

Jennifer and Eric have been together since 1988, and you can feel that love and steadiness in every moment. Joining them were their sons, Brandon and Daniel, along with their wonderful wives, Cat and Kennedy — who’s expecting her first baby soon. It was such a fun and easygoing afternoon capturing their joy and playful banter.

We met at Parking Lot #2, one of my favorite spots inside Garden of the Gods. The weather couldn’t have been better — soft sunlight, golden tones, and just enough breeze to keep things feeling alive. From the very first frame, everyone was smiling, joking, and soaking in the view. It honestly felt like photographing my own family.

Why Family Photography at Garden of the Gods Is So Special

Garden of the Gods offers the perfect blend of accessibility and dramatic scenery. Its open fields, red rock formations, and mountain backdrops make it one of the best spots in Colorado for family sessions. Whether you’re visiting from out of state or you live nearby, the park delivers endless opportunities for light-filled, natural portraits.

For families like Jennifer and Eric’s, this location adds something extra — a sense of timelessness. Each image feels like a postcard from Colorado itself.

Capturing Connection, Not Just Poses

The magic of family sessions comes from the in-between moments — the laughs, the hugs, and those quick glances that say everything. Jennifer’s family was full of those. One minute everyone was laughing about something Daniel said, and the next they were quietly admiring the sunset behind Pikes Peak.

As a Colorado photographer, that’s what I always aim for: relaxed, authentic storytelling that reflects who you are as a family.

Tips for Planning Your Own Family Session

If you’re thinking about your own family photography at Garden of the Gods, here are a few quick tips:

  • Timing matters: The hour before sunset brings that warm golden glow that flatters everyone.

  • Coordinate outfits: Choose neutral tones with one accent color for balance — think sage, cream, and rust.

  • Relax and have fun: The best photos come when you’re fully present and enjoying the moment.

  • Bring layers: Colorado weather changes quickly, so a cozy jacket or scarf can make all the difference.

And if you’re already in the holiday spirit, now’s the perfect time to book your Christmas Mini Sessions in Colorado Springs. 🎄

A Day Full of Laughter and Love

By the end of our session, the light turned golden and everyone’s smiles were even brighter. Jennifer’s family had a wonderful chemistry that made every frame come alive — from the group portraits to those sweet candid moments between parents and kids.

Jennifer later wrote:

“We had such a great time and really appreciated your friendliness and cannot wait to see the finished pictures! It was so fun and you really made it comfortable for everyone… even Eric!”

That kind of feedback means everything. It’s what makes my work so rewarding — turning a fun afternoon into a memory they’ll hold onto forever.

If you’re dreaming of your own family photography at Garden of the Gods or anywhere across Colorado Springs, I’d love to capture it for you. Whether it’s a milestone session, a holiday shoot, or just a day spent together, we’ll create photos that feel honest, joyful, and uniquely yours.
