There is something incredibly special about photographing a surprise proposal in the Colorado mountains. The anticipation, the emotion, the scenery, and that once-in-a-lifetime moment when everything comes together.
Jack and Angie’s surprise proposal at Saint Mary’s Glacier was exactly that.
As a Saint Mary’s Glacier proposal photographer, I love helping couples create an experience that feels adventurous, meaningful, and true to them. With its alpine lake, mountain views, and beautiful Colorado scenery, Saint Mary’s Glacier was the perfect location for Jack to ask Angie one of life’s biggest questions.
We met around 9:00 AM on a weekday morning near the lake, and Colorado showed off for us — sunshine, blue skies, and a peaceful mountain atmosphere.
After Angie said yes, we spent time exploring the area, capturing engagement photos around the lake, and simply celebrating the beginning of their next chapter together.
Jack and Angie were absolutely wonderful to work with — adventurous, kind, and so appreciative throughout the whole experience. Sessions like this are exactly why I love documenting love stories across Colorado.

Planning a Surprise Proposal at Saint Mary’s Glacier
One of the biggest parts of successfully photographing a surprise proposal is preparation.
Since this was my first time photographing a proposal at Saint Mary’s Glacier, I wanted to make sure everything went smoothly for Jack and Angie.
The week before their session, I drove out with my dog Aspen to scout the entire location. We explored different areas around the lakes, checked viewpoints, studied where the best light would be, and found the perfect spot where Jack could propose.
When you only get one chance to photograph a surprise proposal, knowing the location ahead of time makes all the difference.

Why Saint Mary’s Glacier Is Perfect for Engagement Photos
Saint Mary’s Glacier is one of my favorite types of Colorado locations because it feels like a true mountain adventure without needing an entire day to experience it.
After a short hike, you’re rewarded with incredible views, including:
• A beautiful alpine lake
• Mountain backdrops• Rocky Colorado landscapes
• Glacier views
• Endless photo opportunities
It’s a perfect location for couples who love the outdoors and want their photos to feel more like an experience rather than a traditional photoshoot.
As a Colorado engagement photographer, my goal is always to capture not just how everything looked, but how the moment felt.

Parking at Saint Mary’s Glacier
If you’re planning a visit to Saint Mary’s Glacier, parking is something you’ll want to prepare for ahead of time.
For Jack and Angie’s proposal, we parked near Silver Lake, which was around $10 and gave us convenient access to the area.
There is also parking closer to the Saint Mary’s Glacier trailhead, which is typically around $20.
Parking prices and availability can always change, so I recommend checking current information before visiting.
A few things I recommend bringing:
• Comfortable hiking shoes
• Water
• Sunscreen
• Layers
• A jacket (even in summer)
Colorado mountain weather can change quickly, and being comfortable helps you enjoy the entire experience.
Best Time for a Saint Mary’s Glacier Proposal
Timing can make a huge difference when planning a mountain proposal.
For Jack and Angie’s Saint Mary’s Glacier proposal, 9:00 AM on a weekday ended up being perfect.
The morning light was beautiful, the temperatures were comfortable, and there were fewer people around compared to busier weekend times.
For most Colorado mountain proposal locations, I usually recommend:
• Sunrise
• Morning sessions
• Weekdays whenever possible
These times usually provide better lighting and a quieter, more intimate experience.
Colorado Mountain Proposal Photography Experience
Every proposal is different, and my goal is to help create an experience that feels personal to each couple.
For Jack and Angie, that meant a beautiful morning adventure surrounded by mountains, water, sunshine, and the excitement of being newly engaged.
