Garden of the Gods Surprise Proposal at Sunrise: Brendan & Marley at Siamese Twins

There's something special about experiencing Garden of the Gods early in the morning. As the first sunlight reaches the towering red rock formations, the park takes on a completely different atmosphere. The trails are quieter, the light is beautiful, and the scenery creates an incredible setting for a surprise proposal.
I recently had the pleasure of photographing Brendan and Marley's surprise proposal at Siamese Twins in Garden of the Gods, Colorado Springs. It was an absolutely wonderful morning, and having their dog along for the adventure made the experience even more memorable.
Planning a Sunrise Surprise Proposal at Garden of the Gods
A successful surprise proposal often starts long before the actual moment. Brendan and I planned ahead of time so everything could come together naturally on the morning of the proposal.
We chose Siamese Twins, one of the most recognizable rock formations in Garden of the Gods. The natural opening between the rocks creates a beautiful frame, with the surrounding Colorado landscape visible through it. It's a wonderful location for photography, especially when the early morning light starts illuminating the red sandstone.
I arrived ahead of time, prepared to photograph the rocks as the sun came up. This gave me an opportunity to get into position, enjoy the morning light, and be ready when Brendan and Marley arrived.
One of the things I love about photographing surprise proposals is that the planning happens behind the scenes. My goal is always to make everything feel natural while staying in the right position to capture the moment without giving anything away.
The Big Moment at Siamese Twins
As Brendan and Marley arrived at Siamese Twins, the morning unfolded just as we had planned.
With the beautiful red rock formations surrounding them and the Colorado landscape in the background, Brendan got down on one knee and surprised Marley with the big question.
These are the moments that make proposal photography so special. The excitement, the surprise, the reactions, and all the little details that happen within those first few seconds are impossible to recreate.
I love being able to document these moments as they naturally happen. Rather than turning the proposal into a staged photoshoot, I focus on staying discreet and capturing the genuine emotions as the story unfolds.
And of course, their dog was right there to be part of the celebration!
Celebrating Together Among the Red Rocks
Once the proposal was over, the excitement continued. We spent some time photographing Brendan and Marley together around Siamese Twins, taking advantage of the beautiful morning scenery and the natural light.
Their dog was such a fun part of the experience. Including him in the photographs made the session feel even more personal and reflected the little family they are building together.
Some of my favorite photographs from proposal sessions are the ones that happen naturally after the big moment. The laughter, the hugs, the excitement, and those little interactions that don't need much direction.
We captured a combination of photographs featuring the two of them, their dog, and the incredible rock formations that make Garden of the Gods such a special place.
Why Choose Sunrise for a Garden of the Gods Surprise Proposal?
If you're considering a Garden of the Gods surprise proposal, I highly recommend considering an early morning session.
Sunrise offers several advantages for couples planning something special.
Beautiful natural light: The early morning sunlight creates beautiful warmth across the red sandstone formations. Depending on the season and conditions, the changing light can add incredible depth and atmosphere to your photographs.
A quieter experience: Garden of the Gods is one of Colorado Springs' most popular destinations. Starting early can offer a more peaceful experience, with fewer visitors around some of the park's popular locations.
A memorable setting: Watching the sun come up over the red rocks is an experience in itself. Adding a surprise proposal to that morning makes it even more meaningful.
Siamese Twins is also accessible via a relatively short hike, making it an appealing option for couples who want beautiful scenery without committing to a long mountain adventure.
Of course, the best timing and location depend on the season, weather, and your overall vision. That's why planning ahead is such an important part of the experience.
