After more than a year without seeing my dad, I finally got the chance to surprise him during a Bay Area family trip this April. He had flown in from Iran to visit my sister, and I knew I had to make the trip to California to spend time together after so long.
It turned out to be one of the most meaningful and memorable vacations we’ve shared.

A Father–Son Road Trip to Monterey
I borrowed my sister’s car and took my dad on a spontaneous road trip to Monterey. We wandered Cannery Row, watched the waves crash against the rocks, and just enjoyed being in each other’s company again.
The coast never disappoints — but neither did the smiles on our faces.

Exploring Santa Cruz and San Francisco
With my sister off work for the next two days, the adventures continued.
• Day One: Santa Cruz — We wandered through local spots, soaked in the laid-back beach-town vibe, and just had fun.
• Day Two: San Francisco — We went full tourist mode: riding cable cars, exploring Chinatown, and ending the day with an incredible dinner at House of Nanking, a San Francisco legend for over 30 years.

More Santa Cruz Memories
On one of our final days, we returned to Santa Cruz — this time with my dad and Uncle Farzad. It turned into another beautiful day of bonding and storytelling, walking along the beach, and enjoying the coastal scenery together.

A Quiet Ending With My Sister
Before flying back, I spent time with my sister Hoda and her sweet dog, Simba. We snapped a few photos to remember the moment, and that peaceful last day left me filled with gratitude.

Reflections on a Bay Area Family Trip
This trip reminded me of how precious time is, especially with loved ones you don’t get to see often. Between road trips, meals, laughter, and quiet moments, I came home with a renewed appreciation for family and connection.
I’m so grateful for the memories we created — and I can’t wait to make more like this again soon.
