Garden of the Gods Surprise Proposal at Montezuma Tower

There’s something incredibly special about sunrise at Garden of the Gods. The quiet trails, the soft morning light hitting the red rock formations, and the calmness before the park fills with visitors creates the perfect atmosphere for meaningful moments. Eli and Janette’s sunrise surprise proposal near Montezuma Tower and the Three Graces was one of those mornings I’ll never forget.

Eli originally reached out to me a few months before the proposal while planning this special moment. We talked through different locations inside Garden of the Gods, timing, lighting, and how to make the experience feel natural and relaxed while still preserving the surprise element. Since Janette already knew a couples session was planned, this became more of a partial surprise proposal session, which honestly can work beautifully because it allows couples to feel more comfortable and connected throughout the experience.

We met early in the morning at Garden of the Gods just after sunrise. The energy between these two was instantly genuine, calm, playful, and deeply connected. One of my favorite things as a photographer is when couples simply enjoy being around each other, and Eli and Janette made the entire session effortless in the best possible way.

Garden of the Gods Surprise Proposal at Montezuma Tower

This garden of the gods surprise proposal at montezuma tower felt incredibly personal and meaningful from start to finish. Between the peaceful sunrise atmosphere, the dramatic red rock scenery near the Three Graces, and the genuine connection Eli and Janette shared, everything came together perfectly for such an unforgettable Colorado proposal experience.

And then add this sentence naturally somewhere in the body:

Eli and Janette’s garden of the gods surprise proposal at montezuma tower was the perfect example of how meaningful and intimate a sunrise proposal session in Colorado can feel when everything slows down and couples can simply enjoy the moment together.

Why Montezuma Tower Is One of the Best Proposal Locations in Garden of the Gods

While many people immediately think of the iconic overlook areas inside Garden of the Gods, Montezuma Tower near the Three Graces offers something a little different. The area feels intimate while still showcasing the dramatic red rock scenery Colorado is known for. Early morning light also works incredibly well here because the sun wraps softly around the formations without the harsh midday contrast.

As we explored the trails and photographed the two of them together, we slowly made our way toward the proposal location. Once we arrived at the perfect spot near Montezuma Tower, I subtly gave Eli the signal we had planned ahead of time.

He immediately knew it was time.

A few moments later, he got down on one knee and asked Janette to marry him.

And of course, she said yes.

The emotion, excitement, and genuine happiness between them afterward made the rest of the session incredibly fun to photograph. Honestly, these are the moments I love most about being a Colorado surprise proposal photographer. The reactions are real. The emotions are real. Nothing is forced.

A Small World Connection

One of the coolest parts about this session happened afterward.

A past couple of mine, Allison & Peter’s Garden of the Gods couples session, actually knew Janette from work and reached out to me afterward on Instagram saying how excited they were to see that I captured this proposal. Colorado can feel like a surprisingly small world sometimes, and moments like that always make these sessions even more meaningful.

Planning a Surprise Proposal at Garden of the Gods

If you’re considering planning your own proposal at Garden of the Gods, sunrise is honestly one of the best times to do it. The lighting is beautiful, temperatures are usually cooler, parking is easier, and the trails feel much more private and peaceful compared to later in the day.

One thing I always help couples with is choosing the right location based on the type of experience they want. Some people want epic panoramic views, while others want something quieter and more intimate like this area near Montezuma Tower and the Three Graces.

A Sunrise Proposal I Won’t Forget

By the end of the session, it honestly felt like I had spent the morning hanging out with old friends. Eli and Janette were such a fun, genuine couple to photograph, and I’m incredibly grateful they trusted me to capture such an important moment in their lives.

I truly hope I get the opportunity to photograph their wedding someday, wherever that may be and however big or small the celebration ends up being.

Moments like these are exactly why I love what I do.
