Colorado 14er Hiking Guide: My Journey to All 58 Peaks
Colorado’s legendary 14ers are peaks that rise above 14,000 feet, and hiking them is one of the most iconic outdoor challenges in the American West.
In 2025, I started a personal goal: hiking all 58 Colorado 14ers.
This Colorado 14er hiking guide documents my journey to climb all 58 Colorado 14ers while sharing trail insights, photography, and lessons from each mountain.

My Progress Climbing Colorado 14ers
Climbing Colorado’s highest mountains takes preparation, patience, and respect for the terrain. Weather can change quickly, altitude affects everyone differently, and each peak presents its own unique challenges.
Each summit adds another hiking guide, another lesson learned, and another story from Colorado’s high alpine environment.
As more peaks are completed, this page will continue to grow with additional guides and experiences from the mountains.

Each guide typically covers:
• Trail difficulty
• Elevation gain
• Route highlights
• Best time of year to hike
• Photography from the trail and summit
As I continue climbing more peaks across Colorado, new hiking guides will be added here.

What Makes Colorado 14ers So Special
Colorado has more 14,000-foot peaks than any other state in the United States. Each one offers a completely different mountain experience.
Some routes follow well-maintained trails that gradually climb above treeline. Others require navigating rocky ridges, steep scree fields, or exposed alpine terrain.
No matter which peak you climb, standing above 14,000 feet offers an unforgettable perspective of Colorado’s wilderness.
From the summit you can often see entire mountain ranges stretching across the horizon, with valleys and alpine lakes far below.
Moments like that are why so many hikers set the goal of climbing all Colorado 14ers.

Lessons Learned From Climbing 14ers
After hiking several Colorado 14ers, a few important lessons stand out.
Start early. Afternoon thunderstorms are common in the Rocky Mountains during summer.
Pay attention to altitude. Even experienced hikers can feel the effects above 12,000 feet.
Respect the mountain environment. Staying on trail and practicing Leave No Trace principles protects these landscapes for future hikers.
And perhaps most importantly, take time to appreciate the experience rather than rushing to the summit.
The mountains reward patience.
Colorado Mountains and My Photography
Spending time in Colorado’s high alpine terrain has had a huge influence on my photography.
As a Colorado elopement and intimate wedding photographer, many of the couples I work with are drawn to the same mountain landscapes that make climbing 14ers so memorable.
Exploring these peaks regularly has given me a deeper understanding of Colorado’s terrain, changing weather patterns, and hidden viewpoints across the state.
That perspective helps when photographing couples who want their wedding or elopement experience to feel adventurous and connected to the outdoors.
Many of the photographs from these climbs eventually become part of my fine art collection as well. If you enjoy Colorado mountain landscapes, you can explore my Colorado fine art photography prints where some of these 14er images are available as wall art.

A Journey Beyond Borders
Climbing Colorado’s 14ers has become more than just a hiking challenge for me.
I spent the first half of my life in Iran and the second half in the United States. Both places shaped who I am and how I see the world.
For many years I described myself as Iranian-American. But over time, especially during periods when the world feels divided by conflict and war, I’ve started to think about identity more simply.
At the end of the day, we are all human.
Standing on a mountain summit has a way of putting things into perspective. Up there, it doesn’t matter where someone was born or what language they speak. Everyone faces the same altitude, the same weather, and the same challenge of reaching the top.
My hope is that this journey can be a small reminder that nature has a unique way of bringing people together.
Climbing all 58 Colorado 14ers may take years, but I hope the adventure reflects something bigger than just summiting mountains. It’s a celebration of the outdoors, shared experiences, and the idea that adventure can connect people across cultures and borders.

The Long-Term Goal: Climbing All 58 Colorado 14ers
The long-term goal of this project is simple:
Climb all 58 Colorado 14ers.
Some peaks are relatively accessible day hikes, while others require long approaches, challenging terrain, and careful route planning.
Completing all of them will likely take years, but that’s part of the adventure.
Every summit becomes another chapter in the journey and another guide for hikers who want to explore Colorado’s incredible mountains.
Over time, these guides, photographs, and stories may eventually grow into a complete Colorado 14er hiking guide documenting the experience of climbing all 58 peaks.
