There’s something unforgettable about photographing a surprise proposal — that blend of anticipation, emotion, and pure love. Christian and Anna’s Brainard Lake surprise proposal was one of those moments that felt straight out of a dream.
Tucked away just outside of Ward, Brainard Lake, Colorado is an alpine gem surrounded by towering peaks, crisp air, and reflections that shimmer with every breeze. It’s the kind of place where you can feel the quiet magic of the mountains — peaceful, intimate, and endlessly scenic.
Planning the Perfect Brainard Lake Surprise Proposal
When Christian reached out, he wanted something simple but meaningful — a setting that felt natural, private, and true to their relationship. From the start, I knew Brainard Lake would be the perfect spot. It offers the kind of beauty that feels effortless: snow-capped peaks, pine-lined trails, and that glassy water reflecting the sky.
We began the session casually, walking along the trail and taking a few warm-up photos so everything felt relaxed. Anna thought it was simply a photo session, but Christian had something much bigger in mind.
Then, in a quiet clearing surrounded by evergreens and the lake behind them, Christian turned to her, spoke from the heart, and dropped to one knee. Her expression said everything — laughter, surprise, and tears of joy all at once. It was a moment that perfectly captured love in its most genuine form.
Golden Light and Genuine Emotions
After the “yes,” we made our way down to the lakeshore as the sun slipped behind the mountain ridge. That soft, golden light illuminated the peaks and sparkled on the water — one of those perfect Colorado evenings.
They couldn’t stop smiling — hugging, laughing, and taking in the view. Those in-between moments always end up being my favorite: the deep breaths, the laughter, the shared look that says everything without words.
I also filmed the entire proposal, so Christian and Anna will be able to relive it forever once the video goes live right here.
