Some elopements stay with you forever.
Nathan and Ross’s day at Independence Pass and Twin Lakes was one of those experiences for me. Not just because of the scenery, although the scenery was unbelievable, but because of the emotion, intentionality, and love they brought into every part of the day.
I left Colorado Springs long before sunrise and drove deep into the mountains as the first light slowly started hitting the peaks around Independence Pass. By the time I arrived, the entire landscape felt quiet, dramatic, and completely alive.
This twin lakes and independence pass elopement felt adventurous, emotional, peaceful, and deeply connected to the landscape around them from beginning to end.
And honestly, it wasn’t just the mountains that made the day unforgettable. It was Nathan, Ross, and their dog Otis. The way they looked at each other, the laughter they shared throughout the morning, and the emotion during their vows had me trying to keep my camera steady more than once.
Why They Chose Twin Lakes & Independence Pass for Their Elopement
Nathan and Ross wanted a location that felt adventurous while still allowing space for intimacy and connection throughout the day.
Independence Pass gave them those sweeping alpine views and dramatic mountain backdrops for their ceremony and portraits, while Twin Lakes brought a slower, quieter energy afterward where they could actually relax and celebrate together.
These two locations pair together beautifully for couples wanting a Colorado elopement experience that feels both elevated and personal.

An Emotional Ceremony at Independence Pass
We started the day surrounded by endless ridgelines, cool alpine air, and dramatic mountain scenery at Independence Pass.
The weather shifted constantly throughout the morning in the best possible way. Clouds rolled through the peaks, sunlight broke through unexpectedly, and the mountains felt different every few minutes. Colorado has a way of making elopement days feel alive and unpredictable in the most beautiful sense.
Nathan and Ross exchanged private vows surrounded by the mountains, and the entire ceremony felt incredibly emotional from beginning to end.
There were tears, laughter, quiet moments, and that feeling you get when two people are fully present with each other without distraction.
That’s honestly one of the things I love most about intimate weddings and elopements. Couples actually get to experience the day together instead of feeling pulled in a hundred different directions.

A Relaxed Celebration at Twin Lakes
After their ceremony, we made our way down toward Twin Lakes for a slower lakeside celebration with their pup Otis.
Nathan and Ross added one of my signature boho picnic setups to the experience, which created such a cozy atmosphere beside the water and mountains.
Their setup included:
Rugs, pillows, and a low-table picnic setup
Candles and fresh florals
Sparkling wine and charcuterie
Organic treats for Otis too
It felt intentional without feeling overdone. Just enough to elevate the experience while still allowing the natural beauty of Twin Lakes to remain the focus.
The entire afternoon felt relaxed, meaningful, and deeply personal to them.
Their Twin Lakes & Independence Pass Elopement Timeline
One thing I always help couples with during the planning process is building a realistic timeline that allows the day to feel relaxed instead of rushed.
For Nathan and Ross’s elopement, we intentionally created a slow-paced morning that balanced adventure, meaningful moments, and time to simply enjoy being together.
Here’s how their day flowed:
7:30–8:30 AM — Independence Pass Overlook
We started the morning at Independence Pass with incredible alpine views, quiet mountain air, and portraits overlooking the surrounding peaks. Otis joined us for this part too, which made the morning feel even more personal.
The early light up there was absolutely beautiful.
8:30–8:35 AM — Drive to the Trailhead
From the overlook, we made the short drive toward the Independence Lake / Linkins Lake trailhead.
8:35–9:35 AM — Linkins Lake Trail
Nathan and Ross wanted to incorporate a little adventure into the day, so we hiked out toward Linkins Lake together.
The trail is relatively short at around 1.4 miles round trip, but it still gives couples that immersive Colorado mountain experience without needing a huge all-day hike.
Once we reached the lake, we spent time capturing portraits together surrounded by alpine scenery and quiet morning reflections on the water.
9:35–9:50 AM — Drive to Their Vow Location
After the hike, we drove to a secluded creekside location tucked into the mountains near Independence Pass.
9:50–10:30 AM — Private Vows by the Creek
This part of the day felt incredibly intimate.
Nathan and Ross exchanged vows beside the running creek with mountain views surrounding them in every direction. The sound of the water, the changing weather, and the quiet atmosphere made everything feel grounded and emotional in the best way.
We spent time slowing down here, taking portraits, and simply letting them experience the moment together.
10:30–10:50 AM — Drive to Twin Lakes
From there, we headed down toward Twin Lakes for the second half of the celebration.
10:50–11:20 AM — Picnic Setup + Relaxing
While Nathan and Ross changed outfits and relaxed for a bit, I finished setting up their lakeside picnic experience nearby.
11:20 AM–12:50 PM — Picnic Celebration at Twin Lakes
This was one of my favorite parts of the day.
They popped champagne, shared food together, laughed nonstop, and finally got to slow down after the emotional morning ceremony.
Honestly, this is one of the reasons I love intimate weddings so much. There’s actual space to experience the day instead of rushing from one event to another.
12:50–1:10 PM — Final Portraits Along the Shoreline
Before wrapping up, we explored the shoreline around Twin Lakes for a final set of portraits together with the mountains in the background.
The midday light reflecting off the lake was incredible.
1:10–1:30 PM — Wrap Up
We packed everything out, said our goodbyes, and wrapped up one of the most meaningful Colorado elopement days I’ve ever been part of.
