Twin Lakes & Independence Pass Elopement

When I think back on all the elopements I’ve photographed, Nathan and Ross’s day at Independence Pass and Twin Lakes stands out as one of the most beautiful and emotional experiences of my career.

I left Colorado Springs before sunrise for the three-hour drive into the mountains. Watching the first light hit the peaks as I approached the pass, I knew this was going to be something unforgettable. But honestly, it wasn’t just the scenery — it was Nathan, Ross, and their dog, Otis. The way they looked at each other, the laughter they shared, and the love they poured into their ceremony had me tearing up behind the camera more than once.

Why They Chose Independence Pass & Twin Lakes

Nathan and Ross wanted a location that felt both adventurous and intimate. Independence Pass offered sweeping alpine views for their portraits, while Twin Lakes gave them a quiet, peaceful spot to slow down and celebrate afterward.

These two locations — just 15 minutes apart — are a dream combination for couples who want the drama of high mountain peaks paired with cozy lakeside moments. If you’re planning your own day, I also recommend browsing my Colorado Elopement Guide for even more inspiration on locations and timelines.

The Ceremony at Independence Pass

We began the day at Independence Pass, surrounded by endless ridgelines and crisp alpine air. It was the perfect setting for Nathan and Ross to exchange vows. The weather gifted us dramatic skies that shifted throughout the morning — a reminder of how alive Colorado’s mountains can feel.

Their ceremony was raw and emotional, full of laughter and tears. I tried to keep my camera steady while wiping away a few of my own.

A Boho Picnic Celebration at Twin Lakes

After the ceremony, we drove down to Twin Lakes for their intimate celebration. Nathan and Ross chose my Signature Boho Picnic add-on, which included:

• Rugs, pillows, and a low-table setup

• Candles and fresh florals

• Sparkling wine and a charcuterie spread

• Organic treats for Otis (yes, their pup was spoiled too!)

It was the perfect blend of cozy and elevated — just enough to feel special without overshadowing the natural beauty of the lakes. They sat back, popped some bubbly, and celebrated the fact that they were officially married.

Final Thoughts

Nathan and Ross’s elopement wasn’t just beautiful because of the scenery — it was beautiful because of them. The joy they shared, the tears during their vows, the way Otis trotted around like he knew it was his parents’ big day — it all came together in a way I’ll never forget.

I’m endlessly grateful they trusted me to capture this chapter of their story.

And just putting it out there — I’d be so honored to photograph your wedding day too, whenever and wherever that might be, big or small. If you ever feel like I’d be a good fit when the time comes, I’d love to be part of that chapter too.
