There’s something timeless about winter at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. Between the snow-covered grounds, mountain views, historic architecture, and peaceful atmosphere, it creates an incredible setting for elegant couples portraits.

This session was photographed years ago during one of my earliest seasons as a photographer after moving to Colorado Springs. At the time, I was still learning about photography permits, venue policies, and how private luxury properties like The Broadmoor operate regarding professional photography sessions.

Even now, looking back on these images, I still love the emotion and atmosphere we captured together.

The combination of fresh snow, soft winter light, formal attire, and the iconic Broadmoor backdrop gave the entire session a cinematic and romantic feel without needing anything overly complicated.

A Romantic Winter Portrait Session at The Broadmoor

One of my favorite things about photographing couples sessions is creating space for people to simply slow down and enjoy being together.

We wandered through different outdoor areas around the property while snow covered the grounds around us. The bride’s gold dress contrasted beautifully against the winter landscape, while the groom’s navy suit added a timeless and elegant feel throughout the session.

Rather than heavily posed images, a lot of my favorite moments came naturally:

  • laughing between photos

  • walking through the snow together

  • quiet in-between moments near the lake

  • movement and interaction that felt genuine instead of stiff

That balance between refined and relaxed is always what I aim for during couples sessions.

Photography Rules and Permits at The Broadmoor

This is important for couples to understand before planning any professional photography session at The Broadmoor.

The Broadmoor is a private luxury resort with very specific photography policies and permit requirements.

According to The Broadmoor’s current photography guidelines:

  • Professional photography sessions require an approved photo pass

  • A valid overnight hotel reservation is required

  • Engagement and couples sessions are permitted with approval

  • Wedding, elopement, and vow renewal photography are not permitted unless officially coordinated through The Broadmoor Wedding Team

In other words, couples cannot simply arrive at the property and hold an unapproved wedding or elopement session.

The Broadmoor specifically states that wedding and elopement photography must be arranged directly through their wedding department as part of an official event package.

You can review their current policies and apply for a photography pass directly through The Broadmoor here:

Because venue policies can change over time, I always recommend couples contact The Broadmoor directly for the most updated information before planning any session there.

Why The Broadmoor Is Beautiful for Couples Portraits

Even with the permit requirements, there’s no denying how visually stunning the property is.

The Broadmoor blends:

  • mountain scenery

  • luxury architecture

  • lakeside pathways

  • elegant landscaping

  • historic Colorado charm

  • beautiful winter atmosphere

The result feels refined and cinematic while still staying connected to Colorado’s natural beauty.

For couples wanting a luxury-inspired Colorado experience, portrait sessions like this can feel incredibly special without needing a large production.

Winter Portraits in Colorado Feel Cinematic

Colorado winters have a way of simplifying everything in the best possible way.

The snow softens the landscape. The light becomes quieter and moodier. The mountains feel peaceful. And couples naturally slow down and stay close together.

That atmosphere made this session feel intimate and effortless from beginning to end.

Some of my favorite images from the day came from the simplest moments of connection rather than anything heavily staged or elaborate.

That’s always what matters most to me:creating photographs that feel honest, connected, and emotionally real.
